Focused on Education & Dance
Imani attended Maranatha High School, a Christian private school in Pasadena, California. She was on the jazz performance dance team for 4 years, and on the varsity track team since her sophomore year. After high school, Imani attended Pasadena City College, and was active on both the salsa team and the dance team (hip hop, jazz, pop, and lyrical dance). Imani performed and danced at numerous school events. She recently received her Associates degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Pasadena City College.

Turning Point
When she turned 13, Imani was selected to participate in the Miss Teen California pageant. Imani shared, “Since I was shy, the experience taught me to be courageous and unafraid. It was a good experience and a great way to meet new people.”

Her Passion & Hobbies
Imani learned ballet at the age of 3 and trained in ice skating for 4 years. She loves to draw and paint using various mediums including acrylic, oil and watercolor. She received several artwork awards while in high school. For fun, Imani loves singing, dancing, eating and going to the beach. Imani’s ultimate passion is ballet. She has loved ballet since she was a little girl.

Goals & Dreams
Imani developed an interest in psychology when she was still in high school. In the Fall, Imani will pursue her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a Minor in Dance. She plans to attend Azusa Pacific University, Occidental College or California State University-Dominguez Hills. Imani’s career goal is to work as a counselor for high school or college students. She will continue her studies to earn her Master’s degree in Family Counseling or Family Therapy as well as her Ph.D.

Her future goals include visiting New York, dancing for a professional dance company, and possibly opening her own dance company one day.

Living a Holistic Lifestyle
Imani shared with us: “There are many things that can be detrimental and harmful to our body. I stay away from soda and fast food restaurants. It’s very important to practice living healthy inside and out. And that means taking care of the whole body – our mind, body and spirit.” She also believes that living healthy boosts self-esteem as we tend to view ourselves more positively when we feel good about our health.

Imani says dancing is her daily workout…after all, she dances everyday! She also likes to go hiking, and enjoys doing yoga and meditation. Her favorites fruits and vegetables include: strawberries, grapes, bananas, pineapples, carrots, and broccoli.
