Wellness-Spring was founded in 2012 by Edna Dimataga-Fernandez. Several life-changing experiences inspired her to start the company including her father’s death at the age of 47 due to a heart attack, her mother’s battle with breast cancer at the age of 56, and her own struggle with infertility. She gave birth to their first child, Dominic, in 1996. She tried to get pregnant again when Dominic turned 6. Unfortunately, she could not pregnant after trying for 8 years. In February 2010, she found out that both of her fallopian tubes were blocked. Medical doctors advised that she go through invitro-fertilization since she was already 37. They kept telling her that getting pregnant after age 35 was very slim. Considering her family’s health history, she did not want artificial hormones in her body so she refused invitro treatments. She decided to take the mattter into her own hands and did some research in alternative medicine.
In the Fall of 2011, she started incorporating alternative medicine, and holistic welness methods in her lifestyle. In the past, she always experienced painful periods. Unfortunately, her conventional medicine doctor was unable to treat the pain. After undergoing several rounds of acupuncture treatment and taking Traditional Chinese Medicine, the pain went away! In addition, she exercised more by doing something she loved….walking! She walked 3 miles a day, which included walking up a steep incline 4x a week. To relieve chronic pain in her back and shoulders, she had deep tissue massages every 3-4 weeks. She also incorporated a healthier diet in her lifestyle. She ate more organic fruits and vegetables and increased her intake of anti-oxidant rich foods. She also practiced Yoga, Meditation, Reiki, Crystal Healing, and Hypnotherapy.
She got pregnant in the Spring of 2012 at the age of 39. She gave birth to their 2nd child, Ella, in December 2012, just 6 days before Christmas. Ella is the best Christmas gift they have ever received.
She speaks to women about the importance of using organic skincare and paraben-free mineral make-up. What we put on our skin is absorbed by the body. Unfortunately, many women are not aware that majority of the cosmetics available in the market are made of toxic ingredients, and are very bad for our health. She also founded THE WELLNESS INSTITUTE, a provider of holistic wellness plans, wellness education, and wellness programs for businesses and organizations.
Together with her husband, Phil Fernandez, they have launched a wellness project called The Grape Seed which is geared towards women who struggle with infertility. Phil is a professional fashion photographer based in Los Angeles.
